Rich with character

Colinton Furniture evolved from Craighouse Cabinet Works which began making handcrafted and bespoke furniture in 1883 for the good people of Scotland and beyond. In the libraries, studies and reception rooms of some of the country’s most prestigious private addresses, and long-standing businesses, you’ll find examples of our work in every wood imaginable.

Personal service above all

Commissioning a piece of bespoke furniture is a wonderful experience to be enjoyed from initial idea-sharing right through to final unveiling. Testimony to our belief in building great relationships with clients we are immensely proud to have many loyal customers who come back to us time and again, generation after generation.

A strong bond

Today the Colinton Furniture ‘family’ is led by Dennis Walton, ably supported by his children Danielle and Natasha, nephew Steven and a dedicated team of eighteen master craftsmen and women, designers and professionals. Each one, hard-working, conscientious, proud and responsible as well as good fun.

Another Bond entirely

In fact, in 1951 one of our apprentices noted as being particularly good fun was a certain Sean Connery. After the war, there was considerable demand for stylish, contemporary furniture. His job was to add the finishing touches to dressers and wardrobes. One Christmas, a senior cabinet-maker took him along to the Kings Theatre to earn a bit extra building sets for Christmas. Unlike diamonds, Colinton Furniture it seemed was not to be forever.

Made in Fisherrow

Every commission is designed and made in our Fisherrow workshop on the outskirts of Edinburgh. The workshop draws its talent from the local community and supports a long-held tradition of encouraging both young and matures apprentices into the many skilled trades used at Colinton Furniture. To offer such an exciting array of materials and services the business is committed to developing its people. At the moment we’re learning new ways to the best from Corian.
